The thyrotropin receptor (TSHR) is expressed in the thyroid and in precursors undergoing lineage-specific differentiation, e.g adipogenesis. The TSHR is activated by TSH, thyroid stimulating antibodies (TSAB) and gain-of-function mutations (TSHR*).
